Aligning the right and left brain

The Department of Student Services recently hosted a ‘Whole Brain Learning’ workshop to assist students to harness the potential of cognitive study methods that stimulate creative and intellectual awakening.

The workshop was sponsored by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation and presented by James Jooste, a renowned South African learning and study skills coach who aimed to holistically identify why students fail exams and to equip them with a range of tools and skills to maximise their potential.

The ‘Whole Brain Learning’ process involves a programme of self-discovery which facilitates an individual’s realisation of his or her mental power and creative learning capacity by integrating the creative, problem-solving and comprehension sections of the right hemisphere of the brain with the logical, practical and strategic functions of the left.

Poly Social Worker, Lizelle Miller, said the workshop instils in students the confidence and all the skills needed to succeed and reach their full potential and to prepare them for university.
