An Industry Breakfast, titled: “Global Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Supply Chain and its Role Towards Economic Growth: Lessons for Namibia,” was hosted recently by the Department of Marketing and Logistics. Dr Manfred Bruch, a German pharmaceutical expert, and B360 expert, was the presenter at the event.
The Breakfast included a panel discussion which identified niche areas that Namibia could capture such as the production and packaging of generic medicines and the marketing of it to Namibian consumers and to SADC countries.
The danger of counterfeit medicines and the poor handling of medicines through the supply chain mechanism were identified as major concerns that need to be addressed in order to minimise costs and the loss of life.
The event gave a platform for professionals in the Pharmaceutical Industry and in the Logistics and Supply Chain fraternity an opportunity to network and to start the conversation about manufacturing, quality supply of medicines, and the role of the public and private sectors as well as the role of universities in healthcare sustainability.
