Zaaruka encourages small start

More than 750 students graduated in various management disciplines yesterday during the NUST Graduation Ceremony that solely focused on the Faculty of Management Sciences.

Well-known businessperson and owner of Benz Building Supplies, Ben Zaaruka, addressed the ceremony and advised the graduates on the essence of mapping one’s professional journey. He related his personal and colourful journey, climbing the ladder, from very humble beginnings to the top of the corporate world.

Whilst encouraging entrepreneurship, Zaaruka cautioned the graduates to have realistic expectations and not to believe that they will immediately start businesses after graduating. He urged them to rather invest time in looking for mentors who will coach them about what success is and what it takes to reach one’s goals.

He highlighted the benefits of working for a small company when entering the job market. He quoted Jack Ma, one of the world richest billionaires and founder of Alibaba, who said: “Before you reach the age of 30, go to a small company because normally in big companies you learn processing as you become part of a big machine. But when you go to a small company, you learn the passion and you become part of a dream and get exposed to a lot of things at one time.”

The Graduation Ceremony for the other Faculties is being held today.
