Background of Quality Assurance at the Namibia University of Science and Technology:
The NUST has been associated with quality and quality assurance practices since its inception in 1996. Even before that, during the mid-1990s, the NUST was affiliated to the Certification Council for Technikon Education (SERTEC) in South Africa.with the establishment of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and the merging of universities and technikons in post-independence South Africa, SERTEC was dissolved and its functions absorbed by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) of the CHE.The relationship previously established through SERTEC continued, and in March 2007 the NUST became the only institution outside South Africa to be audited by the HEQC. This is an indication of the importance that the NUST assigns to quality assurance and quality enhancement (Council on Higher Education, 2007).
